New Video Explaining CAFO Regulations Now
Available
Keeping pace with livestock environmental regulations grows more challenging
with each passing year. Now, a new video makes the job a little easier.
The video is specifically designed to help cattle feeders and dairymen
better manage their environmental liabilities.
Narrated by Cowboy Poet Baxter Black and produced
by Brink, Inc., an environmental consulting firm, the video, entitled
"Environmental Management Guide for Feedlots and Dairies,"
focuses on environmental rules and other issues that affect Concentrated
Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs).
"Environmental compliance has become a key issue to our customers
in the beef and dairy industries," says Dr. Tom Overbay, Director
of Field Veterinary Services at Fort Dodge Animal Health. "This
video provides CAFO operators with a practical environmental management
tool. It wraps all of the key elements of environmental regulations
and compliance into a twenty-minute package that is both informative
and entertaining. We're pleased to help underwrite the cost of producing
this video to help make it more affordable for producers to obtain."
CAFO operators now list environmental issues among their top management
concerns. And with regular news reports of government fines and citizen
lawsuits being brought against owners of animal feeding operations,
it is no surprise. At the same time, environmental compliance is a
subject that many CAFO managers are reluctant to discuss for fear
of disclosing potential liabilities. And government regulations are
often written in complicated language, making them difficult for the
average reader to grasp.
"This video cuts through the jargon and explains all of the important
aspects of the environmental regulations in a relaxed format that
is easy to understand." says Paul Parker, Marketing Manager at
Fort Dodge Animal Health. "It describes how the regulations impact
individual CAFO operators, and what they need to do to achieve and
maintain regulatory compliance. It is a valuable resource that management
and their staff can use to better manage their environmental responsibilities,
and with the new CAFO rule just released by EPA in December 2002,
the video is especially timely."
